Tlemcen

Tlemcen – The Andalusian pearl of spirituality, craftsmanship and luxuriant nature
Nicknamed the Algerian Granada, Tlemcen is a jewel nestling in the green mountains of western Algeria. A city of art, faith and refinement, it was one of the major cultural centres of the medieval Maghreb.

Un peu d’histoire

Tlemcen, built on the Roman ruins of Pomaria, flourished from the 8th century onwards as a commercial and spiritual crossroads. Capital of the Zianids in the 13th century, it enjoyed an architectural, artistic and intellectual golden age. It withstood invasions while retaining its Hispano-Moorish refinement. Today, it continues to shine through its remarkable historic sites, its university and its living traditions.
