Tamanrasset

Tamanrasset – The soul of the Hoggar, between sacred mountains and Tuareg culture
Nestled at an altitude of over 1,300 metres in the south of the Hoggar massif, Tamanrasset, known simply as Tam, is much more than a town: it's an experience. An oasis town, a crossing point between Algeria, Mali and Niger, and the cradle of the Kel Ahaggar Tuareg culture, Tamanrasset offers a journey to the very edge of the desert and of oneself.

Un peu d’histoire

Founded in the early 20th century around a French military post, Tamanrasset quickly became a strategic location. It attracted Tuareg tribes as a gathering point, and saw Father Charles de Foucauld settle in his hermitage at Assekrem, which became a spiritual Mecca. Today, Tam is a major Saharan crossroads, retaining its nomadic roots while opening up to exploratory tourism and trans-Saharan tours.

Tamanrasset is not just a GPS point. It’s an elevation. A land where time slows down, where the mountains speak, and where human beings fade away before the majesty of the desert. The Hoggar is not a place to visit. It’s to be experienced, felt and meditated upon. Here, the soul breathes more deeply.
