Djanet

Djanet – The jewel of the Tassili, between celestial rocks and Tuareg culture
In south-east Algeria, Djanet stretches between golden dunes, black sandstone rocks and peaceful oases. An emblematic city of the Sahara, it is the gateway to the Tassili n'Ajjer, a UNESCO site.

Un peu d’histoire

For centuries, Djanet was a caravan crossroads between the Maghreb, Nubia and the Sahel. The Tassili massif is home to thousands of prehistoric rock paintings and engravings, evidence of a fertile Africa that no longer exists. Home to the Kel Ajjer, the local Tuareg confederation, Djanet perpetuates a unique Saharan culture of crafts, music, poetry and nomadic traditions.

Last stop

Djanet is an experience, not a destination. It’s where silence speaks, where the stars dance, where every rock seems painted by the gods. To walk in the Tassili is to cross the ages. To sleep under the stars is to be reborn. Those who venture there never leave quite the same.
