The ancient Castellum Tingitanum, now Chlef, was founded by the Romans in the 1st century. Over the centuries, it became a strategic link between western and central Algeria. Destroyed by several earthquakes, notably in 1980, the town has always risen from the ashes. It still preserves the vestiges of its ancient and colonial past, and is today an important agricultural center.

Chlef is a deep and generous Algeria. A region of land, water, silence and ancient knowledge. Here, relics tell the story of a thousand years of history, markets smell of fresh tomatoes, and sunsets on the west coast have nothing to envy of postcards. Perfect for getting off the beaten track and reconnecting with authenticity.
