A BIT OF HISTORY

Founded by the Romans under the name of Lambdia, Médéa became the center of power for the Turkish beys of the region in the XVIᵉ century. Its current name is said to derive from the Arabic word madiya, meaning “she who leads towards the good”. An administrative and agricultural town, it has preserved traces of every era: medina, ancient hammams, Ottoman casbah, colonial buildings, and a local culture deeply rooted in mountain traditions.
