A BIT OF HISTORY

Jijel, formerly Igilgili in Roman times, was a strategic port and trading center in the heart of Numidia. Destroyed then rebuilt several times, the town has retained a proud, rebellious soul. Its history is also marked by piracy, naval battles and Berber resistance. Today, Jijel remains a cultural bastion of maritime Kabylia, where Tamazight and Arabic are spoken in singular harmony.
